AI-driven design revolution: SkyDrive teams up with Braid Technologies to enhance eVTOL efficiency

Japanese eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle maker SkyDrive is now leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize the design of its flying vehicles.SkyDrive has teamed up with Braid Technologies to employ AI in generating thousands of design patterns, enhancing the structure of its electric aerial vehicles (EAV).At Braid Technologies, scientists, engineers, and designers are using AI, physics, and mathematics to automatically develop high-performance, cutting-edge engineering designs.
“We’ve been collaborating with Braid to explore innovative ways to optimize the structure of SkyDrive’s next-generation eVTOL,” said Arnaud Coville, chief development officer of SkyDrive. “Instead of relying on general techniques like topology optimization, we’ve been inspired by their advanced technology that handles a multitude of parameters affecting structural weight.”
Established in 2018, SkyDrive conducted its first crewed flight test in Japan in 2019, and this new project is poised to enhance the vehicle as it nears deployment. For instance, SkyDrive recently signed an agreement with Osaka Metro to explore the use of eVTOL vehicles in the Osaka region.
The companies are considering practical applications of EAVs in Japan, including vertiport operations for takeoff and landing. Osaka Metro, which has invested in SkyDrive, operates eight subway lines and a driverless tram, transporting over 2 million passengers daily.Osaka Metro has integrated different transit systems—subways, buses, and taxis—throughout Osaka and was selected to manage a vertiport near the Expo site in the city.
SkyDrive recently submitted its type certification application to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB).The company is targeting FAA certification, alongside its anticipated JCAB certification, by 2026 or later.SkyDrive also established a U.S. subsidiary in 2023 to prepare for entry into the U.S. market, a crucial region for all eVTOL manufacturers.
The EAV maker formed a strategic partnership with Volatus Infrastructure, working together on advanced mobility infrastructure in South Carolina, SkyDrive’s U.S. base. Volatus was recently acquired by eVertisky.
In addition, SkyDrive agreed to sell five three-seat flying vehicles to a private charter service in Augusta, Georgia.SkyDrive and Bravo Air have also partnered to develop air mobility use cases, including a planned air taxi network connecting Augusta Regional Airport to destinations across the region.SkyDrive has started producing its flying vehicles at a Suzuki manufacturing plant in Shizuoka, Japan.
The SkyDrive SD-05, referred to as a flying car, is being built by Sky Works, SkyDrive’s manufacturing division, in collaboration with Suzuki. The plant has the capacity to produce 100 of the three-seater EAVs annually.
SkyDrive recently agreed to sell its EAVs to an aerial tourism group in Japan and received a preorder from the MASC General Incorporated Association, which promotes aerial tourism in the Setouchi Islands in western Japan.
SkyDrive and MASC are collaborating to explore potential suburban routes for the SD-05 flying vehicle.Other showrooms for EAVs are being developed, including two by Florida-based Aeroauto Global in Florida and one in Austin, Texas. A showroom has also opened in Germany by EAV developer Pal-V.
SkyDrive recently partnered with the Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) to build high-speed charging facilities for EAVs, with the first station expected this year.Tokyo-based SkyDrive and KEPCO have been collaborating since 2022, leading to this joint development.

AI CRAFTED IMAGES
Thor and Superman
Prompt:
Change the character with whatever you want:
"Dark, cinematic, hyper-realistic horror. Wide shot. A monstrous, decaying zombie Thor with half of his face a gory abyss of torn, jagged flesh and exposed bones. High contrast lighting. Indirect flash with deep shadows and warm colors. Burning, blood-red eyes glowing in the dark.
Rotted flesh and wounds emitting green, putrid smoke. Seething, infernal rage in his gaze. Grotesque texture and details. Meticulous, intricate rendering of rotting skin and torn muscle.
Inspired by the works of Zdzistaw Beksinski and H.R. Giger. Apocalyptic atmosphere and color palette. Cursed, dark, and foreboding environment.
Heavy atmospheric effects with thick, toxic mist."
