AI Adoption Boosts Trust but Raises Concerns About Human Connection, Study Finds

In the survey, 62% of respondents expressed trust in organizations the same or even more when generative AI is employed. In the U.S., 57% believed AI-savvy businesses are better equipped to make accurate predictions.

Slightly over half (53%) said they would trust AI technologies to handle daily tasks more effectively.

To create Trust Scores for businesses and industries, participants rated organizations on a 1 to 5 scale, based on their agreement with four statements across three trust pillars.

Businesses also self-rated on how they thought customers would score them. The study revealed an 11-point trust gap on average.

This gap can significantly impact business performance, leading to missed opportunities, disappointed customers, and lost revenue, according to Vodafone.

However, trust scores improved when customers believed businesses were "using technology the right way."

“Trust is the foundation of relationships and influences our daily decisions,” said David Joosten, president of Vodafone U.S.

“By embracing technological advancements like AI, global businesses are discovering new ways to enhance service quality, improve experiences, and build customer trust.”

The study found that as businesses adopt AI, they identify new methods to increase efficiency and enhance customer experience.

Those leveraging AI for customer benefit—whether by delivering faster, higher-quality products or offering more precise customer service—can reduce the Trust Gap by nearly half.

However, 62% of U.S. respondents worry that relying on such technologies could make organizations feel less human. Even more (76%) believe companies should be more transparent about their technology use and its customer impact.
